London, 19 July 2018 - Appreciative Investigations Masterclass

  • London United Kingdom (map)

Art of Work will deliver a one day Master Class on Appreciative Investigations - a systematic approach that takes organisations to the heart of how work is done.

Most organisations routinely investigate when things go wrong, but they rarely have a structured approach for investigating how and why people are successful in their work. The purpose of Appreciative Investigations is to improve organisations’ ability to proactively learn from normal work, to discover what people do to achieve successful outcomes, and to appreciate and build on strengths that are already present in the organisation.

Attendees of this one day Masterclass will learn how they can improve performance (productivity, efficiency, well-being, safety) by exploring the resources, tools and strategies people rely on to achieve successful outcomes, and the conditions and constraints that help and hinder work.

Through a combination of lectures, workshops, and case studies, attendees will build an investigative tool to uncover details about work that other formal observations and auditing methods do not capture. The day will cover the following questions:

  • What do you look for to understand and improve work if it isn’t deviations or unwanted behaviours?
  • How can understanding work performance improve deviation management?
  • How do you carry out an Appreciative Investigation in practice?
  • How can the gathered information help to improve work?

Participants of the Masterclass will receive a facilitator’s guide on how to design and carry out Appreciative Investigations.

Helen Rawlinson, Managing Director UK at Art of Work will be presenting the day.

Helen Rawlinson has over 10 years’ experience working in safety across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, recycling and government. She has a degree in Health and Safety management and a strong passion for changing perceptions of the industry as well as encouraging businesses to connect with their people to harness an understanding of what work really is like. Helen sits on the review board for the UK industry magazine, SHP. She is known for her interest in reducing bureaucracy and for her ability in challenging and supporting businesses with their transformational journey between traditional safety and Safety Differently.

Testimonials from previous Appreciative Investigations Master Classes:

Thank you, what an informative day. It was so practical and the tools that I received during and after the session were invaluable. I got such a lot out of it. It's seldom that I walk out of a session that resonates so strongly...
